Where to Move in Florida: Tampa vs. the Rest
By Tamily Abdo, REALTOR® · Kendall Bonner Team at eXp Realty · 2026-08-17

Florida is a big state with very different metros. If you're deciding where to land, here's an honest comparison of the major options. (General information; figures are estimates.)
▶ Watch on YouTube: Tampa vs Miami vs Orlando vs Jacksonville vs Sarasota
Tampa Bay
Coastal-metro living with Gulf beaches, a growing and diversified economy (healthcare, finance, tech, logistics), and more attainable housing than South Florida. Trade-offs: higher insurance and hot summers.
Miami
The most international, high-energy, and expensive of the group — world-class beaches and nightlife, but a notably higher cost of living and housing.
Orlando
Theme-park capital and central-state hub with a tourism-heavy economy and housing broadly comparable to Tampa. Inland, so no beaches at your doorstep.
Jacksonville
The most affordable big metro on this list, with a large footprint, beaches, and a lower cost of living — but a more spread-out, less dense feel.
Sarasota
Smaller, upscale, and known for its beaches and arts scene, generally at a higher price point per home and a quieter pace.
The common threads
All are in Florida — no state income tax, sunshine, and the same higher insurance reality. The differences are cost, density, economy, and lifestyle.
The bottom line
There's no single "best" — it depends on budget, industry, and whether you want beaches, theme parks, or big-city energy. Many people tour two or three before deciding.
